2. Show Committee Thanks

Northern Maine Sportsman Show
Presque Isle Fish & Game, Presque Isle
March 28 & 29

Join us in Presque Isle for the Northern Maine Sportsman Show this weekend.

Thanks to our Show Committee volunteers for help at Orono and Wilton: Gordon Foster, Millie Teriault, Vinny Masracchio and JR Maybe at the Orono show; and Roger Lambert, Chris Began, Bob Parker and Jaye Parker at the Wilton show. Congratulations on a job well done representing MPGA and selling raffle tickets to support our activities.

See you in Presque Isle and in Augusta on April 3-5.

3. Events Committee Thanks

The MPGA "Events Committee" represented MPGA at three special retail events last weekend, at L.L.Bean, Kittery Trading Post and Cabela's. Thanks to our committee volunteers, and congratulations on a job well done.

Committee chairman Don Dudley organizing things and traveled to all three stores to set up our displays. Then our members stepped in to staff the display booths, meet the public and discuss the Association's activities and Maine Guides. We also sold raffle tickets to deal-hungry crowds at Kittery Trading Post and Cabela's.

Thanks to Joel Gott, Scott Higgins, Robert Demchak, John Farrell and Steve Wilcox for doing such a great job. Everyone met up on Sunday afternoon and Steve then shuttled all the displays back to Bangor so we could prepare for the show in Presque Isle next weekend. Thanks again everyone.

MPGA also sponsored a seminar at Kittery and L.L.Bean. Special thanks to member Don Kleiner for presenting the topic "Taking Your Kids Fishing" on MPGA's behalf.

5. Banquet Auction Donations Needed:

You can be a big help with MPGA's fundraising efforts by donating an Auction Item or by asking others to donate. All donated items are welcomed for the auction - whether you plan to attend or not. Contact Jeff Bellmore by email (grtrips@adelphia.net) or by phone (273-3818) if you have an item to bring or donate so he can get the auction organized ahead of time.

Auction proceeds are a vital part of our fundraising efforts. Newsletters, meetings, and our work in Augusta are all very expensive. Our annual budget depends on the additional income brought in by the banquet and auction.

Tax Deductions - Donations made to the "Maine Guides Education Fund" qualify as charitable donations and therefore may be deducted on tax returns. You can now contact many retailers, like Wal-Mart or Dick's Sporting Goods, who only give items for charity events. We have a color brochure about the Banquet that you can print and take with you. It has information about MPGA and the Maine Guides Education Fund, including tax Id numbers. Download the Annual Banquet Sponsor Brochure

Very Important - Donations intended for the charitable tax deduction must be made by check payable to "Maine Guides Education Fund", and merchandise must be accompanied with a written statement of that intent and the merchandise's value. We have a Donation Form ready to help you with this. Download, print and use this Donation Form when you ask for donations.

For more information, visit our website's Banquet Section.

6. Maine Conservation School Scholarships:

MPGA will be offering two $400.00 scholarships for Conservation Camp this year. Winners will be drawn at the Annual Banquet.

Youths age 10 to 13 may apply for a scholarship by submitting a short written essay stating why they want to attend the Conservation Camp. These must be written by the youths. The essays MUST arrive by Friday April 10. We will accept names at the Annual Banquet on April 11, provided they are accompanied by the youth's written essay (the youths do not need to be at our banquet in order to win).

Conservation Camp costs $575.00, and most scholarships are only for $200.00. Do not miss this opportunity to receive a $400.00 scholarship from MPGA.

Mail the requests to:

Jeff Bellmore
1384 Atlantic Highway
Warren, ME 04864

Or give them to Jeff at the Annual Banquet.
